So it's been a while I know...I'm bad! ;) I haven't been totally sedinatary whiel I've been away though.
I got some chives started for my mom and they have germinated. Yay! They were started in an old candle jar with some pooting soil over a few rocks placed at the bottom so drainage isn't an issue. I was worried that they wouldn't germinate so after copious water, because I didn't soak the seeds overnight to help with germination, I placed a gallon-sized Ziplock bag over the top. It makes a mini-greenhouse and the chives came up two or three days later! I put the bagged jar under a lamp next to the window to ensure tons of light and so far so good. Mom has never had the skill/patience when it comes to growing herbs so I thought I'd start some for her. I'm thinking she needs some basil because she still has sage, oregano and I think thyme alive outside believe it or not!
Once thos chives get going I'm totally going to divide some off. I want to have my kitchen herb garden in a container so I can haul it with me where ever I end up. I am going to start some of my Ace55 tomato plants and maybe a couple of my heirloom tomotoes too. I want to be able to have a healthy container garden going when I leave. I plan to do a whole garden in containers; peas, carrots, garlic, herbs, corn, cukes, tomaotes, zuchinni and more I'm sure! :) I am going to have to scrounge around and find some containers....perhaps once yardsale season gets going I'll be able to find some stuff. Washtubs with holes in the bottom, old buckets, things along those lines. Maybe I'll have to make some if I can't find any that will work. Who knows!
I am starting to get cabin fever so I'm working on sorting through seed catalogues (though I don't need anymore seeds) and planning out a garden for mom. I am also working on a cross-stitch baby blanket that my aunt gave mom. I am also thinking of breaking out my crocheting again....I'm needing stuff to occupy my time! :)
Well, I'm off to apply for some more jobs! Enjoy your day! :)
